The Hubble Space Telescope captured the merging of 2 galaxies into a single galaxy

The colourful photograph shows the beginnings of galaxy NGC 6052, which is located some 230 million light-years away in the constellation of Hercules. The two separate systems were drawn together by gravity and eventually collided.

The Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2) of the space telescope – a joint project between NASA and European Space Agency – captured and showed an image of galaxy NGC 6052. Although appearing as an “abnormal” galaxy, NGC 6052 is actually a single body resulting from an intergalactic crash.
