Facebook page set up to help drought-stricken farmers

A Facebook page called Boere in Nood (Farmers in Distress) has collected more than R240 000 for animal feed. The group was created in early November in an effort to assist drought-stricken farmers. According to the founder of the group, Free State businessman NC Schoombee, they have managed to assist farmers across the country with animal feed. "The current drought has hit a lot of farmers hard, and we just wanted to assist them with feed," Schoombee said. He said he became motivated to start the group when he came across dead and ill livestock on a nearby farm.
